(Accurate as of 2023/12/17)

It was a very cold and windy day for a walking tour, but the city center area made it worthwhile.

Transportation

• Arrival — Flight (TAS — UGC)

- It was a surprisingly crowded flight, but then it made sense as it seemed like most of the passengers were hearding towards Khiva, based on what I overheard from other people’s conversations

- There were very few taxi drivers (not sharks, as they were tame) waiting outside the airport and they did not try to hunt passengers, for which I really appreciated

• Departure — Flight (UGC — TAS) | UZS851,553 (altogether)

- The waiting area was also crowded compared to that in Nukus and Termez, and security check was unexpectedly stringent

My Itinerary

• Exited the airport and walked all the way south along Al-Khwarizmi Avenue

- There are Мемориальный комплекс Ал-Хорезми and Мемориальный комплекс Ал Беруний (+ Al’-Khorazmiy Khaykali) right outside the airport

• Turned right on Abulgazi Bakhodirkhan Street, turned left on улица Тинчлик, walked past Xotira Maydoni and IT Park

• Spent time in Park Amira Timura + Парк “Jasorat” + Yoshlar koʻli

- One can take ferris wheel in Park Amira Timura to look at the city from above

- Парк “Jasorat” is a park with weapons and tanks and so on

- Yoshlar koʻli is a water park and all water was frozen on the day I visited; I was the only human being (I didn’t even see any staff) at Yoshlar koʻli on that day, and the entire walking experience became even more surreal taking low temperature and strong wind into account

• Walked along улица Янги Урганч towards city center area

- There was no Korzinka in Urgench yet when I visited, but along the way there is a shopping mall called To’maris Nur for some grocery shopping if needed

• Spent time in city center area and had lunch at Gavhar milliy taomlari

- Things to see in city center area — JALOLIDDIN park (+ Jalal ad-Din Manguberdi Monument), Agakhi Khorezm Musical Drama Theatre, Khokimiyat Khorezmskoy Oblasti, Avesto monument, Jalal ad-Din Mingburnu Park

- A canal runs through Urgench and the city center area of it; walking along both banks of the canal is very pleasant, and it is recommended to spend around 2 hours in this area to take in its beautiful urban design, I can imagine I will walk along the canal everyday if I live in Urgench

• Walked south along Al-Khwarizmi Avenue to the train station, and walked along the same avenue back to the airport

- It is a 6-km walk, and I managed to arrive at the airport right before sunset as the area surrounding the airport does not seem too comfortable for walking in the dark
