DISCLAIMER: This tutorial series is for educational purposes only. Any advice will be welcomed. I hope this will help you maintain your anonymity. I have used Windows 10 operating system for this tutorial, as it is most people’s primary operating system, but if you really care about your privacy it should not be used as your primary operating system. Use Linux instead, and when possible, open source software. You don’t have to strictly follow the things I’m going to do. This is just to give you an idea so you can follow it or change what suits you best.
In this episode we are going to install Lokinet: an onion-router that lets you access the internet anonymously. Built on LLARP, the fastest onion-routing protocol in the world.
I recommend that you watch the video tutorial while reading this article to make it easier to follow the whole process.
I have simplified the tutorial as much as possible to make it easy and quick to follow. Let’s get started:
1) Downloading Lokinet
Go to https://github.com/oxen-io/lokinet/releases/tag/v0.9.7 . We are downloading this version because it’s the only one working for Windows 10 (at least for me).
Scroll down to find the lokinet-0.9.7-win64.exe file.
Click on it and save it.
2) Installation
Go where you saved the .exe file and run it.
Skip the Windows “protection” clicking on more info and run anyway.
Follow the installation process.
3) Running Lokinet
Now before running Lokinet go to whatismyipaddress.com and check your ISP IP. Copy it somewhere so you don’t forget it.
Run Lokinet and turn it ON pressing the power button.
Write “exit.loki” in EXIT NODE
And toggle the exit ON.
If this error appears, wait a little while to activate the exit node until the number of active paths increases.
Now check again your IP in whatismyipaddress.com
It should be different. If so, well done! :D. You have installed correctly Lokinet in Windows 10.
Note: The internet speed in the Windows version decreases a lot. But is usable. The Linux version works super well.
I hope you liked this tutorial and see you in the next one!
