Strategy. In this photograph of two men playing chess, I know that strategy is at play. The look on their faces and the focus in their eyes is unmistakable. It’s been some time since I’ve played a game of chess. But I remember it’s all about strategy.

In life, strategy is fundamental. It plays out in finance, business, relationships, health, and more. The planning, design, and action in these activities revolves around strategy. Sometimes it’s clear. Yet often it’s not.

When your strategy isn’t clear, it’s difficult to be confident in your efforts. Your actions will feel more like random tasks rather than a coordinated effort. Without a quality strategy, it’s difficult to live with intention.

Playing a game of chess — like the game of life — requires a strategy. A plan of action that uses your unique skills, abilities, and personality. Of course there is more to you than that. But knowing yourself in those areas contributes to a better strategy.

As your day goes on and as weeks pass by, consider the strategy you have in life. Begin with questions. How do you live each day with intention? What habits are you committing to? How will you play strategically as the chess players do in the photograph?

May you create strategies that transform your life and the lives of those around you for the better.
