WALK WITH ME
Why I Walk
When I had my first heartbreak, I walked from Makola Market to Independence Square and back at midnight — that was roughly 4 km.
Anytime ICGC hosts its annual 12 km walk for mental health awareness, I’m right there representing with the girlies whenever I’m around.
Whenever I hit reader’s block, I step out for a walk. When writer’s block sets in, walking gets the ideas flowing again. And if someone betrays or hurts me, a long walk is my immediate therapy. It clears my head, and somewhere along the way, my mind expands beyond the obvious pain to see the bigger picture.
In fact, this piece was inspired by a walk I took this week.
I love to walk.
When I discovered that walking had special benefits for my health, I was like, yayyyy! I was thrilled because, seriously, I have tried jogging, skipping, dieting, swimming and weightlifting.
Chale, those activities are callings, and I have not been called yet! So I have settled on what comes naturally to me.
Walking.
Intentional walking.
