Oren Lyons, keynote speech at Bioneers 2024 Conference

Previous Part 2 saw French & English connections in N American socio-history. Here is a stunning reset on our perspective from a First Nations point of view. A recent gathering of Bioneers 2024 Conference (here) shed light on the long view from an Indigenous perspective, why we should persist in out fight against Climate Change. I let you see the entire video — especially the introductory wry wit on ‘America’ & ‘Indians’ seen by First Nations — but let’s listen here of this event in 1775, based on another in 1744, that you probably never heard about:

The Continental Congress of the Rebels fighting the British Colonists, called for a meeting with the Six Nations to look at how their politics were organised, as distinct from the British system in the then Colony... And that was based on a previous meeting in 1744 among Six Nations how they organised themselves! Have you ever heard of the influence First Nations had in the Fathers of Confederacy? Probably not! As Oren Lyons reminds us, “history is written by the victors” — and First Nations had an oral not a written history — so no-one recorded never mind taught in school, that Rebels parlayed with First Nations the year before Independence…

And beyond that, listen to the rest how Indigenous attitudes can helps us around Climate Resilience. Here’s the description to whet your appetite:
