It’s almost 2020. Before we welcome a new year, let’s reflect on our accomplishments and moments of 2019. It’s been an amazing year and we couldn’t do it without you.

Hosting the NBA All-Star Game

Crowd Uptown during NBA All-Star Game

Charlotte hosted the 2019 NBA All-Star Game. It was a moment where the city was showcased worldwide. It took a lot of teamwork between departments and our partners to pull the event off from traffic management to transportation to public safety and so much more.

Celebration of CLT250

Charlotte Shout

We continued to celebrate the 250th birthday of our city. Many projects completed this year were launched in the spirit of CLT250. For example, our Placemaking Program placed CLT250 chairs around the city and announced its first placemaking grant winners and Charlotte Water unveiled the city’s first branded water tower. The celebration ended with Charlotte Shout, a three-day festival featuring art, music, food and ideas in uptown Charlotte.

Talent Showcase

Performance at the Talent Showcase.

The city held its first employee Talent Showcase in June. The show featured various singers, musicians and performers from across the organization. One thing is for sure — Charlotte’s Got Talent. Missed the event? You can watch it online.

Queen’s Team Accomplishments

Internal Career Fair

Our employee relations team, the Queen’s Team, made some great strides in improving our organization internally. It was recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal as a Best in HR finalist. Some of the initiatives coming out of Queen’s Team are supervisory training enhancements and the first internal career fair. The team continues to meet and give feedback to city leadership.

A Healthy Place to Work

Participants in the Water Relay, one of the Fitness Challenge events.

Our organization was locally ranked 2nd as a Healthiest Employer in the Greater Charlotte region and nationally named a Top 100 Healthiest Employers in America. Our Wellness Works program creates a thriving workplace by empowering employees to make their well-being a priority. This year, we launched the first Wellness Works Fitness Challenge and started work-site gardens at various locations to name a few. Learn more about Wellness Works on CNet.

We look forward to an even greater 2020. Thank you, Team Charlotte!
