Have you read any books recently on having success in your career?

If not, don’t feel bad. We have some extraordinary pieces of advice right here. We’ll begin with three great tips right now:

  1. While a picture of a great athlete could represent the excellence with which you work, don’t use it as your resume.
  2. Don’t show how much you love technology by talking about how machines are going to take over the world (unless your interview or employer is interested in that sort of that thing).
  3. Even though you may want to dress for the job Gotham deserves, leave the Batman suit at home. Okay, bring it as backup — just in case you need to save the world.

Clearly, we have the career advice you need to get to the mountaintop. All joking aside, please read further.

Our team at Banglalink has a lot of wisdom — and humor — to offer you. So, have a look. And get started on building a successful career.

1. Go turn the light bulb on. That’s so you can see — and start learning! That’s how the light will switch on in your head.

“I like to use the 70:20:10 model. With this, 70 percent of learning is through challenging job assignments. 20 percent is through mentoring and coaching. And 10 percent of learning is traditional learning. It’s a blended strategy that allows people to learn more effectively.”

I make a point to learn from my peers, managers, and leaders at work. They have knowledge and experience I don’t.”

— Faiz, the product and pricing director

2. Operate like a cactus. Well, you don’t need all those prickly thorns. But adapt and use your tools. This way, you can thrive in any environment.

“I followed my interests and completed my degree in computer science and telecommunications engineering — two subjects that were all the craze in Bangladesh at the time. From my studies to my position here, my goal has always been to apply what I’ve learned and what I’m learning to my career.”

— Nabila, a network planning specialist engineer

3. You’ve probably been told to follow your dreams. Instead, ask where your dreams are going (yes, you can talk with your dreams). Then, you’ll be able to find a more effective route to those dreams.

“When I started at Banglalink, I was immediately able to inject my own ideas. I loved the challenge of growing with Banglalink from the ground. I’ve learned so much about sales along the way, and am happy that I’ve helped the company grow.”

Fahmidul, head of data, corporate solutions and financial segment for the B2B unit

“I’ve always taken roles that help me develop. I came to Banglalink because it’s an exciting company in terms of market growth and how the services are helping people in Bangladesh. The scale is incredible. By working hard, I’ve been able to gain trust from leadership and take on increasingly larger roles. It’s all about staying hungry!”

— Muzahid, head of channel planning

4. Who’s the best superhero? Try to be that sort of person for your customers. Just don’t wear the costume (though working in a Superman outfit would be cool).

“You must have patience. You have to be honest. You must communicate well. Customers must understand you’re there to help them. You also should have analytical skills.”

— Huda, regional head of sales

“We preach being customer-obsessed, so our account managers must be 100-percent clear on client needs and wants.”

— Fahmidul

5. Here’s a super cool formula for you to remember: Curiosity + Continuous Learning = Success. And success equals hot air balloon rides and apple pies.

“Specialize in something first and get a job in that field. Then, meet people and network. Understand your responsibilities and learn what’s needed. I learned programming out of necessity. Stay committed and chase opportunities that interest and fit you. As you add skills and experience, think about going beyond your specialization into bigger roles.”

— Faiz

“To have success, you must be curious about learning new things, especially relevant technical skills. You must network well because it opens up opportunities. You should also have a positive mindset, along with the desire to consistently improve yourself.”

6. Learn to pass the ball more (i.e. establish trust and effective teamwork). Literally, bring a ball to the office and pass it around if you want to instill the value of collaboration in your mind.

“I’m actually a part of an employees Facebook group called Women in Tech. It’s really an inspiring group, and there are tons of networking opportunities. The forum offers great support and motivation for me, and I like helping others, too. The group is helping me improve tremendously!”

— Nabila

“Batman is better with Robin. Team bonding is very important to company success. I’m always organizing events, like going to a resort or out for dinner. This helps us work as a team better. If we make it a team game, we can be more productive.”

— Huda

7. Think about the most famous brands in the world. Take some inspiration from these companies and build your own powerful brand. You can be like Coca-Cola.

“I’ve seen many graduates that have the right skills, but can’t sell themselves. You must be able to show you stand out from the pack — you must personally brand yourself.”

— Rezwanul

Be all that you can be. Have a legendary career.

We hope these nuggets of wisdom have given you inspiration to achieve your biggest dreams. We also hope they gave you some laughs (because laughing is good for you). Anyway, go out there with a smile on your face and see what magic you can create.
