On Wednesday, September 29, Boson Protocol made NFT history by acquiring The Glass Suit, personally designed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The suit is part of Dolce & Gabbana’s Collezione Genesi, a nine-piece luxury drop curated exclusively by NFT marketplace UNXD. The collection’s items exist both digitally and in the real world.

Boson outbid other contenders at the auction for the unique wearable sculpture, bidding 351 ETH, or $1million.

As an NFT, The Glass Suit comes with a range of digital and physical experiences including its virtual recreation in an open metaverse, an available custom fitting at the Dolce & Gabbana atelier in Milan, access to couture events in Italy and two two-week exhibitions in Dolce & Gabbana stores.

At Boson Protocol, we have been watching with much interest the great work undertaken by Dolce & Gabbana, UNXD and of its founder and chief executive, Shashi Menon. We believe the Collezione Genesi is a foundational moment in NFT history. It connects the digital with the physical in a fascinating way — and its novel approach is why Boson acted to acquire The Glass Suit.

In making this transaction, we are enabling the Boson community to become part of the Collezione Genesi family, and we will be giving $BOSON holders and Boson members access to the Dolce & Gabbana world.

It is our plan to use The Glass Suit as the cornerstone of a digital-physical collection in Boson Portal, our flagship metaverse commerce experience, which we are launching in Decentraland in November.

We’ve already announced upcoming physical drops from incredible digital fashion brands and creators like Metafactory, Auroboros and DRESSX.

The Glass Suit is another example of us moving toward accomplishing our goal.

At Boson we have the ambition to, through our decentralized commerce protocol, enable digital to physical transactions, using NFTs to represent the commitment to exchange real world items for digital value.

Boson Protocol connects the metaverse with the universe making it the network on which all future commerce will run through a new stack of technologies called dCommerce — Decentralized Commerce.

More about The Glass Suit

Completing this suit took thousands of hours to create and more than three months to stitch together.

In making the item, Dolce & Gabbana allude to Venice’s world-famous heritage of glass production and to the ritual of celebratory toasting.

It is crafted from silk upon which Swarovski crystals and Murano glass are embroidered giving the suit a unique reflective quality. When paired with its green shirt, the ensemble contains as many as 78 glassworks each distinct in design, size, shape and color.
