Job Stress and Its Effect on Employee Performance in Banking Sector — Summary of an Academic Article
My experience in corporate America and my transition to academia have taught me how important research is, but not in the way academics think. Of course, academics need to conduct research, and the research should be presented in a form easily digestible for the nonacademic. This publication aims to provide an overview of one academic article in less than three minutes.

Goswami (2015) explores the relationship between job stress and employee performance in the banking sector in his article “Job Stress and its effect on employee performance in the banking sector.” A definition of job stress is provided, along with a list of its causes, including job demands, lack of control, role ambiguity, and interpersonal conflicts. Next, the article examines how job stress affects employee performance, including reduced productivity, increased absenteeism, and higher turnover rates.
Employee performance is also studied in relation to coping strategies for mitigating job stress. There are two types of coping strategies: problem-focused (addressing the source of stress) and emotion-focused (managing the emotional response to stress).
