Beyonce. Slayed.

We all remember how Beyonce slayed the Super Bowl half-time show in 2013. In this year, she used the half-time show as one of her marketing plan for her Formation song and tour. She released the song the day before the show, and then she announced her world tour with an advertisement just after her performance. In fact, Super Bowl broadcaster charged $5 million for an advertisement at the event. Beyonce’s marketing plan was brilliant because she was a paid performer. Unlikely she needed to pay for the advertisement during the Super Bowl event.

Join Pokemon…

This game was one of the most addicted yet successful apps in 2016. It ended up distracting drivers. Someone discovered a dead body when she tried to catch a Pokemon. And there are more news about this app. After it launched in the first month, the game made $200 million in net revenue globally. The app could help shops to get more people into malls or stores while the game itself provides a good platform for marketers.

Brexit

Lots of people talked about Brexit while Britain’s vote to leave the European Union. It caused a stock market crash in the summer time, the British prime minister, David Cameron, resigned, and a global fallout. The Brexit campaign was done well for its marketing simplicity. The word “Brexit” means “vote exit”, and it gives the impression “Britain stronger if it leaves Europe”.

The US President Election: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

Without a doubt, president election was the biggest event in this year. There are many different political ads in this year. From Hate to Fake news, the marketing campaigns brings a new concern to online or digital marketing: how these fake news affect the election? Although Facebook and Google are trying to find solutions to deal with the false news, many people are not really happy with the election result.

We wont forget you, Vine

RIP Vine. Twitter announced plans to close the 6-second video app in this year. Vine rose many big name digital influencers and it is one of the social media platforms for influencing marketing. Many people are disappointed by the Twitter’s plan, but the company recently said it plans to keep Vine alive with a new Vine Camera app.

Meerkat — live streaming video app

Similar to Vine, Meerkat was removed from the App Store in September this year. Meerkat was one of the social media platforms with live streaming platforms. Although many celebrities used the app, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram rolled out their own live streaming platforms for their users. While other social media platforms are pushing the real-time video function, the founders of Meerkat decided to close the app and launched a new social video app called Houseparty.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7

It’s a chaos year for Samsung. When the company launched Galaxy Note 7 in the market, it had many positive reviews. However, the battery issues and the ambitious design are believed to be the causes for the Note7’s death. Even a flight was delayed after someone named their personal wifi spot to “Samsung Galaxy Note 7”, the company may need to spend lots of money to rebrand its next product.
