User location.

Scenario: The user is trying to view a website to help them buy a car. But, the content can’t load without the user’s location. They need to enter their ZIP code and first name.

Challenge: Ask them where they live and who they are without sounding like you’re unnecessarily mining their data.

Headline: 25 characters
Body: 45 characters
Button: 15 characters*

Points to keep in mind

When it comes to entering sensitive or personally identifiable information, we’re asking the users to sell us their data. This should be written with clarity and let users know what they get out of it.

Concerns that a user may have are:

  1. What’s the purpose of asking for this information?
  2. With whom will my details be shared?

And a few more… As a UX writer, it’s our duty to ensure the user knows what’s going on and completes the task.

What I came up with

The headline aligns with the thought of the user and the description provides a clarity on why we need a specific piece of information from the user, i.e. to “find cars nearby”.

The CTA is simple yet clickable, focusing on “show cars” that are nearby available for the user.
