Despite the two months of self-isolation, the Serenity team never slowed down, and the results of their work on all our products are already here. Here are the most important recent improvements that expand the capabilities of Serenity services.

Serenity.Exchange

• Now users of Serenity.Exchange can use market orders to quickly buy and sell currency pairs at the best price currently available. Requests are sent to the order book immediately. Buy orders are executed at the closest ask price in the order book, while sell orders are executed at the closest bid price currently available in the order book.

• Easier registration procedure for new users. We have noticed that some traders had issues with saving the automatically generated passwords and signing in with their usernames. Now traders don’t have to come up with a username, and registration requires only email and password (created by the user). If login and password are incorrect, the sign-in form will return an error message.
• We also fixed a bug in the News section that resulted in missing entries. Now users will always be up to date with the project’s latest developments.

SerenityPay.io

• Cryptocurrency exchanger SerenityPay.io was launched on April 20th, 2020, and now is available in over 140 countries and jurisdictions. Within the first month of the service’s operation, our team has further improved the user experience.
• To help users avoid any errors and delays when making a transaction, all form fields are now provided with helpful hints.
• The exchanger also now has a help desk for quicker and more efficient resolution of user issues. It’s still possible to contact our tech support via email.
• To make the registration procedure simpler, we added hints for password creation and the required checkbox to agree with the terms of service. The hint reminds that the password must contain at least 6 characters in total, at least one capitalized letter and one number.
• The security of transactions has been improved. Only those who have passed KYC can verify bank cards and buy cryptocurrency. If a user used an unverified card for the transaction, they will receive an email with the link to card verification procedure. Until the card is verified, the transaction will be assigned the status “Created”.
• Transaction statuses on the “All transactions” page is now more informative and clear about the state of the cryptocurrency purchase process.

Serenity Blockchain Escrow

As we prepared to accept new clients at Serenity Escrow, the team transferred the system to our own Kubernetes-based private cloud. This will ensure the fail-safe operation of the system and the possibility of quick scaling in case of a peak load buildup.

Furthermore, our team of developers has improved the internal system used by the SerenityPay.io and the exchange:

— New CI/CD;

— Sandbox launched;

— New service configuration mechanism. The upgrade allowed us to cut the deployment time several times and minimize the human factor in the process of the “delivery” of code;

Regulation

The goal of Serenity is to provide a transparent and legal way to exchange fiat to cryptocurrency. All operations are conducted with Serenity — a legal entity registered in Estonia and licensed to conduct cryptocurrency exchange activity. This means that Serenity guarantees the transparency and legitimacy of transactions to regulators and banks.

Thanks to this, SerenityPay.io has an advantage over OTC transaction services that are not transparent and do not bear the risk of a customer becoming a victim of a rogue merchant. Clients cannot be 100% sure that they will receive cryptocurrency in return for the money transferred from their bank cards.

The key difference of buying cryptocurrency through SerenityPay.io compared to OTC transactions is in the fact that the client is buying cryptocurrency from Serenity, a company regulated by a European financial regulator, rather than from an unknown source with an origin of cryptocurrency whose legitimacy can be doubted by banks, or who may be blacklisted, which would result in blocked accounts and funds. Moreover, the client buys cryptocurrency with a bank card rather than through a money transfer and can file a complaint in case of a problem. KYC

Serenity team has automated the system that provides cryptocurrency-paid services to clients. Our team has upgraded the email notification service for our clients. We have improved the process of updating clients on the status of their identity and bank card verification requests, including the explanation in case of denial. The process of resubmission of verification documents has also been streamlined.

Enhanced UX

As we massively expand the platform’s features, other improvements have to be made for the further convenience of clients: new error messages, possibility to delete and reupload incorrect files, the home page now has a bank card menu where the exchange amount can be specified.

Moreover, users can now disassociate a verified card from their accounts with just two clicks. This can be useful to avoid mistakes when making a deposit if the card has expired or has zero balance.

We have also updated the payment status page on SerenityPay and now provide more detailed information on transactions: hash ID is now visible as proof of payment.

Currently, the platform supports BTC, ETH, LTC, USDT, and GUSD. Through Serenity.Pay, users can deposit into their Serenity.Exchange accounts using ordinary bank cards. For individuals, this means convenience, while business clients appreciate the lack of payment processing load.

Margin trading platform

Simultaneously with the cryptocurrency exchanger, we launched a platform for margin trading Margin.Serenity.Exchange. It significantly expands the trading capabilities of the exchange. Margin trading grants access to larger sums than currently on the client’s balance.

Central Bank of Russia and state financial watchdog Rosfinmonitoring are preparing an initiative to ban cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in Russia. In a conversation with Deventer.org, Serenity CTO Vasily Alexeev talked about the possible ramifications of the new legislation for fintech companies and cryptocurrency holders.

If the matter goes beyond words and actually reaches State Duma, this bill may join the list of other legislative initiatives of recent years that are strict, yet technically unfeasible.

Currently, all cryptocurrency transactions are already conducted in the informal economy: they cannot possibly be taxed since Russian law doesn’t recognize cryptocurrency as an asset. Moreover, it’s fundamentally impossible to learn who, when, and what for made a payment in Bitcoin, not to mention who owns what wallet.

It’s important to understand that to create a cryptocurrency wallet, it’s enough to generate 12 random words using special software. Access details to such a wallet exist only in your head, and no one can prove that you have them, while you still can receive funds and, if necessary, send them using these 12 words.

Right now, Russian companies operating within the legal framework that accept cryptocurrency do it through foreign intermediaries who receive cryptocurrency on their wallets and sent fiat money to the companies. In all likelihood, this arrangement will remain legal.

And even if the bill is worded in such a way as to ban this, it would hardly be a devastating blow for these companies, since in this case, they lose only a small fraction of their payments. Companies that cannot operate legally are a different matter: for instance, online casinos, or pirated content websites. Cryptocurrency payments may make up a substantial part of their income. However, they already have nothing to lose: breaking one more law won’t change anything.
