Looking Back at SDGs & Data events of 2017
2017 opened with the very first UN World Data Forum, and is going out with the 6th meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators. This week, we look back on major SDGs and data events we covered this year.
1st UN World Data Forum
Held in Cape Town, South Africa, from January 15th -18th, the first UN World Data Forum produced the Cape Town Global Action Plan for Sustainable Development Data. We reported on resources for the Forum, and the strategies and objectives of the Global Action Plan.
48th Session of the UN Statistical Commission
The UN Statistical Commission was held March 7th-10th, 2017, at the UN Headquarters in New York. This session saw the adoption of the SDGs global indicator framework, a big step forward for the statistical community.
5th Meeting of the IAEG-SDGs
The 5th meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goal Indicators followed shortly after the 48th UN Statistical Commission, held May 18th-31st, 2017, in Ottawa, Canada. We updated our list of Tier 3 indicators ahead of the meeting, and updated our individual SDG indicator lists after the updates from the meeting.
2017 High Level Political Forum
Earlier this summer, we covered week one and week two of the High Level Political Forum and the Voluntary National Review presentation, taking place July 10th–19th, 2017. Over 40 Voluntary National Reviews were presented during the ministerial segment.
2017 Goalkeepers event
During our general coverage of Global Goals Week, held during the opening weeks of the UN General Assembly, we covered the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Report launch and event, on September 20th, 2017. This report explored data availability and trends for 18 of the over 250 SDG indicators. The event showcased the activities of the private sector and public partnerships to achieve these targets, which fall under 7 of the 17 SDGs.
