Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real.

The art of asking — or pitching — without sounding like an jerk it’s a skill that many spend their life trying to master .. and so many fail daily trying.

The reality is that is not easy, is not easy to CARE about what we do…. and in this world.. the marketers world… sooner or later, even the good ones, become Jerks

We stop caring. We stop caring to provide value. To WOW people. To give , give and give and then ask….. yes, JAB JAB JAB JAB — -> Just like Mr Gary V talks about.

But mainly… we are chickens / we are scared of trying, we are concerned about what “they will think”, or about annoying people… or about being “too loud” … when in reality it’s our duty TO BE LOUD.

It’s our duty to stand out

It’s out duty to be different.

It’s our duty to be US.

That’s why we need to pitch. We need to ask. We need to be brave enough, to raise our voice and scream:

HEY! WAIT ONE MINUTE…. I WANT THIS More than anyone else and I know I’M THE RIGHT GUY

Today is a great day, I closed my 1st deal and for more than I expected. $3500 per month. — → BOOM !!! ← — —

Yes. Today that goal of 20K recurrent doesn’t seem so far away…

I’m happy. Exhausted. But I’m happy.

Day #6… no website yet, only Logo… tons of hunger… very little sleep… a lot of passion and a constant drive to do more… to achieve more… to provide more content, more value…

So what’s the secret?

The secret is to be capable of doing it.. and to do it without caring if is going to work or not. I

Here is a quick example

My agency is 6 day old…, and I have a 6-week old baby… so technically I shouldn’t be able to get the CEO of a top Aussie Software startup on the phone…. right?

Think Twice

Here is what I did:

I pitched them from ZERO
I contacted their Marketing Director and I got an email with:

“Hi Gabriel, [CEO name], wants to talk to you tomorrow””

How did I get his attention? With this email:

NAME,
Gabriel here from Australia.
I’m noticed you are looking for a VP of Growth role for XXXXX

I’m applying via email and not via a web form, mainly because I believe my application deserves a bit more of a personalized touch.

NAME, I know you are already reviewing great candidates, but I think in this case you can stop looking. You found me. I’m the right candidate.

My profile is perfect for COMPANY:

Let me tell you in 10 points why.

1 I REALLY know COMPANY. I used to be one of the early users of COMPANY . I know the product. I know who is your market audience. I know why the product rocks.

2 I know your competition, I have used them all and I still keep going back to COMPANY. Hiring someone that knows your industry is vital.

3 I understand the Startup Scene and the importance of Growth. Medium, Linkedin Pulse, FB Groups, Twitter, Quora, Inbound, are not only sites I use, are sites that I milk daily to get traffic, followers, and traction.

4 I’m fluent in SEO. I have been doing SEO for 10 years before any Animal flooded Google (yes, I’m old! I’m pre-Panda, pre-Penguin, pre-Fred. I know what Google wants and I know how to make Google happy)

5. Experience: I have worked with top companies, coaching their marketing strategies and auditing their growth plans with full marketing audits, some of my clients have been Glassdoor, Red Bull, SAGE, PBS Kids (yes! The Cookie Monster) and Xerox

6. I have a strong tech background. I know how to understand analytics and how to read data and bring solutions to the table.

7. Results: I have work on sites where we have double traffic in 7 months or less, going from 1 million users per month to 2.2 million. All via organic traffic. BOOM!

8. I know how to manage teams. In fact, I have my own team that I manage daily. I speak 4 languages so I can work with anyone, anytime, with easy. My team is in the Philippines and I know the outsourcing world very well.

9. I have brain cells and I’m smart. Really smart. You need someone with courage, you don’t need someone that just follow the trend, a real Growth hacker is someone that can bring opportunities and create momentum… you need ideas, strategies, and results. (I bring the 3 of them)

10. I want it more than the others. Period. I’m happy to prove myself working for free the 1st month to showcase the quality of my work… / let me know how many of the other applicants are willing to do that.
