Yapjaw: April Showers Bring May Sneezes
Slackjaw readers and patrons of comedy, my name is Adam Dietz and I am the editor of Slackjaw’s monthly newsletter, Yapjaw. Each month, I will showcase the best and brightest humor on Slackjaw in addition to some other cool stuff from equally cool spots.
The fact that no one has ever asked me to be a guest on their podcast is getting embarrassing. Do you know how many podcasts are out there? Lots. Do you know how many podcasts are built around having guests? Also, lots. Sometimes, I get the feeling that people are too intimidated to ask me to be on their podcasts because I have so many followers on Medium. Look, I have the equipment. I’ll make the time. And I’ll bring the damn banter! I will be on your podcast. You just have to ask.
On this week’s edition of Yapjaw, we’re talking copywriting, the grammar police, and meditation. Want the goods? Keep reading!

Boosting makes us feel good! Slackjaw now has the ability to nominate pieces for boosting on the Medium platform. When a piece is boosted, it generally receives more views, more comments, more claps, and more dollars in your digital pocket. Sadly, when it comes to boosting (or life), there are no guarantees. But we’ve seen over the last month or so, more and more of our pieces on Slackjaw getting boosted.
Editor’s Note:
You ever notice how when you’re trying to schedule a doctor’s appointment, either in-person or by phone, that it’s as if the person doing the scheduling has never done it before? It’s almost like they open a scheduling program on their computer that’s written in a different language or composed of archaic images ancient symbols and each time they use the scheduler, they must re-teach themselves how to navigate the system and decipher the Cuneiform. It’s really something to behold.
For me, it usually plays out something like this:
Office staff: When would you like to come in for a follow-up?
Me: How about next month?
Silence. Quick clicks. Grimacing. Squinting. Quiet chaos.
Office staff: Sorry, my computer is slow today.
Me: (overeagerly) I understand!
More quick clicks. Stomach groans. Furrowing of brow.
Seconds pass.
Minutes pass.
Time stands still.
Office staff: How about seven months from now, on a date that will end up being your mother’s birthday?
Me: Okay! I’ll be here!
The Final Bell:
