We’ve just gone through a 5-part series in which we proposed five steps to writing better emails. Let’s summarise them here:

  1. Is this email really necessary?
  2. Say it in the subject line.
  3. Keep it short and simple.
  4. Explain attachments.
  5. Don’t play email ping-pong.

Of course it takes more to write effective emails, but in line with the 80/20 rule, applying these simple steps will account for 80% of your productivity gains.

To read a short report on email guidelines that summarises these principles — with before/after examples — you can visit our website and download the free report (no email needed) entitled “Email Guidelines”.
