WKU Football got some good news during the middle of the 4th of July holiday as Simpsonville (SC) defensive back Brandon Higgs became the sixth commitment of the 2020 recruiting class

According to MaxPreps, Higgs is a 6'2 180-pound safety that hasn’t been rated yet by Rivals or 247 Sports. WKU beat out Charlotte, Miami (OH), Coastal Carolina & EKU for the South Carolina native. The Hillcrest High School team that he played on went 5–5 in 2018 and he recorded 22 tackles and an interception and three fumble recoveries according to the Max Preps stats. Here is his junior highlight tape

As you can tell, Higgs has good instincts at the safety position and does a great job of closing on the receiver while the ball is in the air.

Higgs camped at WKU in late May and must have impressed the staff during his visit as he received his offer on June 4th. He is the second commitment from the talented Palmetto State, joining three-star receiver Shamar Sandgren. The new staff continues to identify players that they see as meeting their scheme and don’t seem to be too caught up in star rankings at this point.

Here is where the 2020 class sits after Higgs’ commitment

As you can tell, Tyson Helton & staff has made defensive back a priority in 2020 with three of six commitments coming out of that position group. The six commitments are the fifth most in Conference USA at this point.
