So, let’s dig in!
Heroic Happenings
Well, adventurers, it’s been quite a couple of weeks, hasn’t it? Not the easiest for sure, but I’d like to think that all of the turmoil has helped bring both the team and the community closer together than ever before. And amidst all of the news, so much has happened. Let’s recap:
Crystalvale Gen0 Launch
At long last, Berserkers, Seers, and Shapeshifters are making their way from the Inner Grove through the newly re-awoken Portal in Vithraven! Last week, some 350 lucky players received crystals to summon a Gen0 Hero in Crystalvale.
These three new classes form the beginning of an expanded class tier tree that will be filled out over the next three blockchain expansions in the coming years. The Hero bridge that accompanied the release of these Heroes also makes DeFi Kingdoms a fully cross-chain game as well.
While many people are currently bringing these Gen0s and their summons back to Serendale, it won’t be long before we see these realms begin to differentiate themselves by more than just art and music, as future professions, quests, land, and who knows what else will be specific to each blockchain. Just the presence of the new Tavern in Crystalvale already expands the choices that players need to make in choosing where to list their Heroes for sale or for hire.
And speaking of those new Heroes, many of you have been wondering how their stat growth numbers compare to those of the Serendale classes. The handy stat growth spreadsheet has been updated to reflect these new classes:
And finally, if you’re simply wondering what the best profession is for each class:
- Berserker — Mining (140 STR/END)
- Seer — Gardening (130 WIS/VIT)
- Shapeshifter — Fishing (125 AGI/LCK)
So, welcome to all 738 Heroes summoned in Crystalvale so far!
Vithraven’s Awakening — Serendale Gen0 Gene Reroll
With the launch of Crystalvale Gen0s, the event to reroll the selected genes of Serendale Gen0s has also begun.
As Hubert explains in the video below, this event is taking place to help spread the new CV genes across the entire Gen0 pool.
Genes that will be rerolled only include those that the new CV Gen0s have added to, so:
- Main Class Recessives
- Subclass Dominant and Recessives
- Hair Style, Back Appendage, and Head Appendage Dominant and Recessives
- Hair Color, Back Appendage Color, and Head Appendage Color Dominant and Recessives
The chart below shows all of the possibilities for visual genes, as well as their colors.
Rerolling also comes with a number of incentives, depending on whether you reroll stat genes, visual genes, or both, including:
- Up to 12,000 XP (that’s a free Level 8 → Level 9)
- Boosted stats to the new Subclass
- Greater Enhancement Stones and Greater Attunement Crystals corresponding to the new Subclass (this is the first time that Greater stones/crystals will be available)
- Summoning count reset — cost and cooldown
For full details on Vithraven’s awakening, see the official Medium article and the game docs.
A way to visually distinguish rerolled Gen0s will be coming soon. Players have until June 10 at 12AM EDT to choose whether to reroll.
Kingdom Building Program
The DeFi Kingdoms Grant Program relaunched this week as the Kingdom Building Program, with a new platform for proposals and community discussion, as well as a more transparent process throughout.
As before, standard grant amounts are for $10k, $25k, and $50k, but other amounts can be considered as well. The new process also explicitly makes room for proposals that involve data applications and community resources — things I know many readers here are actively working on.
For proposals that want to make use of DFK assets, a blanket API usage policy is still in development that will cover how grantees would be allowed to affect Hero states. This proposal will be voted on by the community, and any requests beyond what it covered by that policy would require a separate community vote.
Head over to the Grants and Bounties page of the DFK website for links to detailed instructions, and then submit your proposal to the discussion board!
Heroes of the Week
Our first Hero of the Week is Mima Wolftalon (#185631) — the second ever Mythic Dreadknight! Summoned with a Lesser Might Stone, she has a whopping 88% Strength Primary Growth Stat and 20% for Secondary. Even more exciting, the summon was recorded live!
And our second Hero of the Week goes to Gonnol Alpenarm (#188784), who has the honor of being the very first Mythic Shapeshifter!
Congratulations to both of these Heroes and their owners!

The Crystal Ball
Here are some developments that we can expect in short and mid terms:
- Stone Carver — This new NPC has been teased for several weeks now, though we actually have very little information beyond that it will allow for the crafting of Lesser Enhancement Stones. Given the art teasers and what we’ve seen in the Dev Updates, it also seems like this feature is pretty close to being ready for release. Maybe he’ll sneak into this week’s smaller patch?
- Pet Hatching — Initial pet hatching for Blue and Grey Eggs had been scheduled for approximately two weeks after the release of CV Gen0s. Hopefully we will see them next week, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take an extra week.
- DFK Duel — No updates here in the past two weeks beyond what was mentioned in the Dev Update. Given that Duel is being developed by an independent task force within the team, it shouldn’t be affected by the broader release schedule, and will hopefully appear by the end of the month.
- Level 10 Profession Quests — Hubert clarified at the AMA this week that these quests are very much the next big thing after Pet Hatching. That could mean that we see them by the end of the month, or in early June.
The Summoner’s Circle
Let’s take a look at some statistics for all of the heroes that have been summoned so far.
- Total Heroes: 191,778 (+6,544 / 3.53%)
- Serendale Heroes: 191,040
- Crystalvale Heroes: 738
- Living Heroes: 169,136
Hero Growth
Two notable events for Hero summoning in the past two weeks: a significant dip on 4/29–30 in response to a glut of miners suddenly becoming available, and then a small increase from the launch of CV Heroes. Overall, the total number of heroes increased by 6,544 (3.53%), and 25 Heroes still remain unclaimed from the Perilous Journey.
Total Heroes (Weekly Change / % Change)
• May 9: 191,778 (+6,544 / 3.53%)
• May 2: 185,234 (+5,407 / 3.01%)
• Apr. 25: 179,827 (+5,480 / 3.14%)
• Apr. 18: 174,347 (+5,130 / 3.03%)
Tavern Volume
Tavern sales likewise saw significant disruptions over the past two weeks. The end of the locked JEWEL mining exploit put hundreds, if not thousands, of cheap miners on the market, causing sales and volume to spike to record highs. The lower price of JEWEL may have also resulted in a lower barrier of entry for new players. Then, this week, the release of CV Gen0s meant that many traded hands, causing volume to spike once again.
The average number of daily sales this week was 925 (down from 1300), with a total weekly volume of 1.11M JEWEL — around the same as last week, but more than twice the volume of the week before. The average sale price this week was 170 JEWEL vs. 115 last week.
Note: As with the other data, the daily numbers represent the 24 hours prior to 8am ET on the listed day.
Hero Stat Breakdowns
As a reminder, this section now contains data for living Heroes only — i.e. those not held by the Graveyard wallet.
Hero Level
Hero levels continued to shift upwards, particularly among Level 7 and 8 Heroes, while Level 4 ticked downward and others remained mostly flat. Level 1 also increased on account of the influx of CV Heroes. Single digits of upper-level Heroes continue to slowly increase, and we saw the first Level 16 this week as well.
Generation
It’s exciting to see the Gen0 change for the first time in a long time! As of the current snapshot, 334 CV Gen0s have been opened, bringing the Gen0 total to 2428 Heroes.
Class
So far, just over 1,000 of the new Crystalvale classes have been summoned (and many of them in Serendale, where summoning costs are less). It will be interested to see how quickly (if at all), these new classes begin to catch up to the higher-tier SD classes.
Highest Profession Skills
Only very small changes in highest profession skill numbers this week as many of these highest-skilled Heroes have shifted over to Training Quests.
- Foraging: 21.5 (#33265 / Mythic Paladin, Level 15)
- Fishing: 21.5 (#36949 / Common Ninja, Level 14)
- Gardening: 20.5 (#68729 / Legendary Priest, Level 10)
- Mining: 19.6 (#103477 / Legendary Sage, Level 9)
The Adventurer’s Guild
In this section, we track heroes as they’re held in various wallets associated with an in-game profile.
Total Hero Wallets: 21,960* (+1,328 / 6.44%)
Note: As of Monday morning, 553 Heroes were held in custodial wallets (including the PJ Contract), and are not included in this data. The Graveyard wallet is excluded from this data.
Hero Wallet Growth
The past two weeks also wreaked havoc with Hero wallet numbers. Last week’s first ever decline in Hero-holding wallets (outside of PJ, which I didn’t track) demonstrated that a good number of these wallets were simply bot accounts, and as the mining exploit was shut down, the Heroes in those wallets were largely dispersed to other players.
This week, however, those wallet numbers are up significantly (net +476 over the two weeks). This is at least in part due to auto-questing services being unavailable (see the Top-10 Hero holders, below, especially), but could also signal additional adoption due to the release of CV Heroes on DFK Chain.
Total Hero Wallets (Weekly Change / % Change)
• May 9: 21,960 (+1,328 / 6.44%)
• May 2: 20,632 (-852 / -3.97%)
• Apr. 25: 21,484 (+428 / 2.03%)
• Apr. 18: 21,056 (+485 / 2.36%)
In terms of overall DFK profile stats — recall that these are the number of profiles created in the game, not necessarily all wallets that have interacted with it — we saw a wallet growth of 1,392 (1.02%) this week, a monthly high, despite the broader market turmoil.
Hero Wallet Stats
Over the past two weeks, the average number of heroes held per wallet increased to 7.68 heroes, while the median wallet held steady at 3.
Big changes over the past two weeks all around. On the upper end, the large 14.5% increase for the Top 50 comes primarily from most Heroes being held directly in their owners’ wallets at the time of the snapshot.
On the lower end of the spectrum, wallets holding only one hero increased massively this week — by 689, following last week’s decline (from Heroes leaving mining exploit wallets). This resulted in the overall share of one-hero wallets increasing by 4.5% this week. Alongside the increase in Hero wallet numbers, this seems to suggest either an influx of new players, and/or players taking advantage of low prices to buy their first Heroes.
Wallet Rankings
Please note the logarithmic y-axis scales of the charts below, and that this first chart groups wallets holding 125–149, 150–174, 175–199, 200–249, 250–300, and 300+ heroes. If you have better ideas for how to display this data, please let me know!
Gen0 Wallet Stats
We’re also checking in on Gen0 wallets, in order to keep an eye on potential consolidation.
Total Gen0 Wallets: 1004 (+157)
As with Heroes more broadly, Gen0 holdings have seen significant changes over the past two weeks. The supply increased by 334 (at the time of the snapshot), and distribution also increased significantly, as CV Gen0s were given out mostly by raffle. Consequently, the average dropped to 2.41 and the median decreased to 1 Hero.
Notably, while the number of Gen0s held by the Top 50 and number of wallets holding at least 10 both increased as a result of the CV release, the share of both fell significantly. Likewise, the number of single Gen0 holders went up by nearly 25%, but the share also increased by 5.5% this week, and 3.2% the week before. If prior weeks had been trending toward consolidation, that trend has been completed reversed for now.
Hero Whale Watch
And finally, let’s check in on our Hero whales. Most notably this week, Veilvi was snapshotted with a majority of their Heroes in a single wallet, pushing the Top 10 totals up significantly. ELisha Zane also continued to expand their holdings over the past two weeks, and Haunted. appeared out of nowhere adding 279 Heroes.
Account Name / Hero Count (Change) / Gen0s
- Veilvi / 1235 (+1038) / 30
- ELisha Zane / 388 (+7) / 4
- Chi / 336 (-4) / 1
- Pikul / 321 (+15) / 8
- Michael3388 / 306 / 4
- Chichowski / 303 (+24) / 2
- DarkSaga / 288 (+22) / 3
- Whynn / 284 (+10) / 1
- Highness Royal / 282 / 0
- Haunted. / 282 (+279) / 0
Total heroes held by Top 10: 4,025 (+936 / 30.3%)
