A little bit about me and my writing.
You may be wondering how I ended up here. Yeah, me too buddy.
My main jobs are graphic designer and parent, but in my spare time I’d like to figure out… you know… Life.
I’ve been a book-worm since I was a kid (I remember fiercely stating that when I grow I up I’m going to have a LIBRARY!) but never expected to be a writer.
One day I was walking along, and realised I was thinking in written words, rather than spoken words. I never knew that was a thing, but apparently it is. So I figured I’d better write them down.
Then I discovered Medium and read some stories that kicked me right in the feeling-bone. Oh, what a lovely way to connect with people! So I spent a couple of hours editing my stream-of-consciousness notes into something readable — and ushered my first baby-story into the world. It got such a lovely response, I thought I’d better do it again.
So here we are.
I’ve got a few favourite topics…
Self-reflection and personal philosophies:
- My teenage bed
Feeling nostalgic for an old-self - The meaning of life (and death) for an atheist
I learnt a valuable lesson at 25: Everybody dies - Nude and human: Being a life model
If you’ve never been to a life drawing class — I recommend it. - An eye, a pencil, and the threads of continuity
Some things link a lifetime across the before’s and after’s - Maybe God really is a DJ?
Spiritual experiences on and off the dancefloor - The tree of love, loss and beauty
How a tree helped me grieve - Rules of attraction: Music edition
Have you heard of the drummer effect?
Love and relationships:
- We need a new word for love
Popular culture has ruined a perfectly good word - It’s not the truth that hurts — it’s behaviour
Honesty is massively underrated - To the father of the man I didn’t save
Who’s responsibility was it to give him the love he needed? - Cuddle buddies wanted
Is it possible to separate physical connection from sexuality? - A guiding principle for relationship equality
How to strike a balance between fully-committed love and looking after yourself
Communities and finding our place in the world:
- In an unsafe world, some fear is misplaced
As women, we’re scared of a lot of things — but fear is not necessarily protection for us or our children - Living in a different frame rate
The upside to not so normal thoughts - The uncomfortable truth about pets
Is it ok to breed and keep animals for our enjoyment? - It’s not an aisle, it’s a catwalk
Go bolder than the white wedding dress
I hope you enjoy reading, and I’d love to hear what you think about any of these topics!
As Goethe put it, we must plunge into experience and then reflect on the meaning of it. All reflection and no plunging drives us mad; all plunging and no reflection, and we are brutes.”
