Create a “gallery” account

This article explains how to create a “gallery” account where a person or a gallery mints pieces which were created by several artists and the sales and royalties are divided among them.

What will that look like?

The Superchief Gallery account is a good example:

For ex., if you click on the piece called Laura Laine — Opera Gloves, you will be able to see that it is an “Superchief” gallery piece as Superchief appears in the list of creators, and that the artist Laura Laine created the piece (they also appear there):

You can also see if you click on “royalties” under the “Properties” field that the royalties will be split between the creators:

Another example is the xcollabz account:

How do you create such an account?

1- Create a wallet and buy tezos

You will need to create a wallet, buy tezos (XTZ) and send these tezos to your wallet. Click here to learn how to do this.

Please don’t forget to send some tezos to your wallet before starting. You need to have at least a small amount on tezos on your wallet to be able to reveal your address. I would recommend to send at least 1.2 tezos because you will need 1 tezos to create a collection and 0.2 will allow you to pay some gas fees.

2. “Sync” your wallet

Go to objkt.com, click on “sync” at the right of the page.

You will then see that you are connected!

3 — Create your collection

If you want to mint (upload) your art pieces, you will need to create your collection. You can click here to see how to do this. You cannot mint an NFT without having created a collection first.

4 — Invite collaborators

If you want to mint “collaboration” pieces, you first need to invite artists to mint into your collection. It means that these artists must already have an account as they will need to accept an invitation.

In order to invite a collaborator, you will need to go to your collections tab:

Then click on the dots next to the collection, select invite collaborator:

Enter the address of the collaborator:

Click on “invite”.

It can take some time. You can check tzkt.io to see if the transaction went through. Here I see it did:

The artist receiving the invitation will see it under the invitations tab:

If the artist accepts the invitation, then they will appear under my name on the collection page as you can see here:

What if you don’t see their name? They probably didn’t accept the invitation, please check with them!

On their side, they won’t see the collection as long as no token including them as a creator is minted. This will probably be changed in the future and appear even if no tokens are minted!

There is no limit for the number of collaborators you can invite.

Please note that you have the possibility to remove collaborators from the collection. However this will not affect the tokens which had already been minted with collaborators.

Once the artists have accepted the invitation, you can start minting the collaboration pieces and add them as creators!

5 — Minting the NFTs

Important! Before thinking about minting, you need to keep in mind that:

  • It is forbidden to mint duplicates except in certain cases. That means that if you mint a test version on another account, and don’t burn it, this will trigger the “review” of your account. If your account is under review, it means that people will not be able to collect. If that happens to you, please burn the test version you minted first and then you can ask us to lift the review in the Discord.
  • It is not possible to edit the description. You will need to burn and mint it again.

Back to minting:

Click on “create”:

Make sure you are on the create “token” tab and not collection:

You can then start filling the necessary information, choose the collection your token will be part of:

Be careful when choosing the collection your token will be part of! Once a token is minted in a collection, it is not possible to assign it to another collection. If you minted in the wrong collection by mistake, burn the token and mint it again.

You can select additional creators. For example, if I am a gallery and there are are 2 artists who worked on the same piece, I will already be one of the “creators” as the gallery and I can add the 2 artists as additional creators. Only the artists you invited as collaborators can be co-creators.

The creators you have already invited will appear here:

Here I selected the other creator:

You can split the primary sales between the creators, but that is done during the listing phase (please scroll down to see how it’s done).

And you can also split the royalties between the creators. That is decided during the minting phase (scroll down).

What if I am a gallery and I don’t want my name to appear among the co-creators?

You can ask the artists to mint the token themselves into your collection. Your name will only appear if you are added by them as a co-creator.

You then need to choose the license:

You can choose “No license / All rights reserved”. It means that the people who buy your NFT will not be allowed to remix your work and sell it etc. If you want to know more about the licenses, you can read the description here: https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/

You then indicate the number of editions. For example, here, I want it to be a 10 editions piece:

And finally indicate the royalties:

Click on + to add the other recipients of the royalties and define their royalties (they don’t need to be collaborators, you can add anyone):

The TOTAL royalties must be comprised between 0 and 25%. If not, you won’t be able to mint. Otherwise, if the total was a 100% royalty, it would mean the person who is reselling their piece would receive 0 tezos.

Then click on “mint” and confirm in your wallet:

Please note that everytime you do a transaction (like minting here), you need to pay gas fees. These are not platform fees, these fees go to miners, not to objkt.com.

They depend but it will be indicated when you start to mint. For example, here, I am trying to mint one token and I can see that it will cost me 0.001 in gas fee and 0.07 in storage fee (at most). If I am not happy with these fees, I can chose not to confirm the transaction and it won’t mint.

If it’s the first piece in your objkt collection, it will show up as #0, the second piece will be number #1 etc.

If you want to mint a high number of pieces, please note that there is an external batch minting tool (use it at your own risk but it usually works quite well, please click on the link below to read my experience).

If you realize you changed your mind and don’t want the piece to appear anymore, you can “burn” it = destroy it. Please read this article to learn how to do it: https://medium.com/@cabline1/burn-delete-a-piece-924340c0909d

Please note that at this point, collectors cannot buy your NFT yet. It is not listed for sale. To list it for sale, you need to swap it.

6 — List the NFT and split the primary sales

Here is how you list your NFT for sale without splitting the primary sales:

Go to your “created” tab, click on the piece you want to sell. Once on the page of the piece, click on the “actions” tab and click on “list”. Here, if you want to sell 1 edition for 20 XTZ, you will write “1” in the “editions” field, and “20” in the “value” field, then click on “list”.

It is possible to “batch swap” directly on objkt which means to sell several pieces at once. Click here to see how to do it.

If you want to sell it, but split the primary sales between different wallets, it is possible. It will only work if you decide to list the pieces however (so it won’t work if you do an auction or you decide to accept offers on the pieces).

Go to your “created” tab:

Click on the piece.

Once on the page of the piece, click on the “actions tab”.

Click on “advanced sale”. It allows you to decide how the sale fee is going to be distributed. For example here, I am going to sell one edition for 20 tezos, and 2% of the sale proceeds will go to me, the first address, 98% to another wallet.

You can also chose to not list it for sale but accept offers instead. That can be useful if you want to stop bots and hoarders. Read this article to learn how the offers work.

Cancel a listing

You can cancel it directly on the page of the listing. Click on the piece, scroll down, and cancel under “listings”:

Or you can go to your listings tab, and select the ones you want to cancel:

If you want to batch cancel, select several and click on “cancel selected”.

Relist

You can also relist without having to cancel first and list. Click on the piece, scroll down, indicate the new amount (here 20 tez) and click on “relist”:

Then confirm in your wallet.

7 — Get a short profile URL

Click here to learn how to get an address like yourname.tez as well as a custom URL for your profile.

The URL will look like this with a URL instead of a succession of numbers:

8 — Add information to your objkt profile

This is extremely important. It is highly recommended to add a name, a profile picture, a link to a Twitter/Instagarm/Website and a description on your objkt profile.

Click here to learn how to do it.

Your profile will then look like this:
