micro-reviews:

Disclaimer and Legend:

* Movie name links to imdb when possible. IMDb/Rotten Tomato scores are from when i wrote the review so they might differ when you read.

* Stars are granted on a 5-star scale and are not meant to be compared universally but (perhaps) with equally themed movies. 5 stars for a romantic comedy doesn’tcompare to 5 stars on a action movie; genre and purpose matter.

* A “+” in a star scale means it’s better than equally starred movies it may contend with. Ratings are based on my opinion at the moment and may change cause reasons.

No escape(2015) — 103 min (1h 43m) — Action, Thriller

Movie handles very well the “protagonists dont really know what’s going on” anxiety, other than that it feels like a run of the mill shit-hit-the-fan movie. Ok watch if you’re intrigued by the idea of being caught in a mess you cant comprehend or fix.

Good if you like: generic escape from bad guy movies

My Rating: ★✰✰✰✰+

IMDB: 6.9

Tomato: 46

Spectre(2015) — 148 min (2h 28m) — Action, Adventure, Thriller

The fact that the previous bond was so good (skyfall) hurt this movie a lot, it feels like they thought of the action pieces and homages to old-bond first, then made a movie around that. Lot’s of wasted potential. That said, Sam Mendes can make anything look good, great shots and cinematography, very gorgeous mediocre movie.

Good if you like: James Bond, throwbacks to old james bond

My Rating: ★★✰✰✰

IMDB: 7.4; Tomato: N/A

Vacation(2015) — 99 min (1h 39m) — Adventure, Comedy

Great movie to watch on a plane like i did, kept me up and laughing, decent comedy road trip movie. Worth it for the laughs.

Good if you like: road trip movies, road trip comedy, the old “vacation” saga of movies

My Rating: ★★★✰✰

IMDB: 6.2; Tomato: 26

Run all night(2015) — 114 min (1h 54m) — Action, Crime, Drama

At this point i feel like i can’t say anything bad about Liam Neeson. Yes, he’s mostly doing the same character over and over again. But let’s be frank, he still looks tougher and meaner than guys 40 years his senior. This one has (minor setup spoilers) a mobster/retired killer angle that works well, as usual. Lot’s of acting talent on otherwise normal action movie

Good if you like: Liam Neeson, Liam Neeson running somewhere and looking bad-ass

My Rating: ★★✰✰✰+

IMDB: 6.6;Tomato: 60

The Search for General Tso(2014) — 71 min (1h 11m) — Documentary, Comedy, History

Interesting documentary on the evolution of chinese-american food. Good insight, worth a watch.

Good if you like: Chinese food, inmigration stories

My Rating: ★★★✰✰

IMDB: 7 ;Tomato: 94

The Lunchbox (2013) — 104min (1h 44m) — Drama, Romance

Don’t watch this movie if you’re hungry, the (few) glimpses at food look amazing. Original rom-com style movie from india where food serves as the connecting plot. Worth a look.

Good if you like: Indian culture, food movies

My rating: ★★★✰✰+

Imdb: 7.8/10; Tomato: 96/100

That’s it for this low watch month! What did you watch ?
