Soulbound NFTS Are Officially Live!
We are excited to announce the release of a brand new protocol feature! The new Charged Particles ERC721 ProtonC contract now supports soul-bonding NFTs (SBTs). You can mint one of these directly from our Dapp. These are non-transferrable NFTs, they cannot be bought or transferred, making them useful to express reputation, achievements and identity. The only way to hold one is to have it be minted and gated to you.
Technically ProtonC implements ERC-5192: Minimal Soulbound NFTs, a simple interface for specifying the lock status of the NFTs. If a token has been marked as locked then the transaction will throw and be reverted upon it being transferred. The exception to this rule is a token being burned by the owner, this is meant for spam and unwanted SBTs to be removable. The locked status can be queried by calling the locked view method from the implementation, if locked it will resolve true.
SBTs promise to be the gate to a decentralized society, allowing for reputation to be constructed transparently without attachment to traditional institutions. Attaching Identities to specific addresses allows for gated access and voting. Possibilities are endless, more so when you consider the possibility of energizing a bounded asset. As an example, we’ve minted an achievement token, representing a user having completed a game; it’s been energized with wBTC making it have more than sentimental value. We love to see our users experimenting with our suite of tools and features. Now you can mint an NFT that is Soulbound, you can create art using our AI generator, you can nest tokens and NFTs inside of it, you can earn yield in it, and you can even time lock the asset within.
About Charged Particles
Charged Particles is a protocol that allows users to deposit ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 tokens into NFTs. A scarce NFT (e.g. Art, Collectible, Virtual Real Estate, In-Game Item, etc.) can now be transformed into a basket holding a number of other tokens. The Principal amount can be time-locked inside the NFT, and through integration with Aave’s aTokens, the programmable yield from these DeFi yield-generating assets is just a few clicks away.
