Feedium #10 — A New Medium Strategy
Hey Feediumites,
Long time, no see! That phrase comes from a literal translation of Mandarin, where they say ‘hao jiu, bu jian.’ There, now you can say you can speak a bit of Chinese.
In other news, I spent a lot of time pondering about what to do with ‘the Medium problem’. If you haven’t been active in the community lately, then you’ve missed about 3,423,734 articles complaining about the massive drop in stats and earnings in Medium over the last couple months.
Some top writers have left, apparently. Others have decided to trudge through it. Others are switching their niches or ‘going back to the basics’, whatever that means.
As for myself, I let the anxiety of the problem develop for over 2 months until I had a mad splash of creativity (and 3 gallons of coffee) and created a 12-page slide deck of how I’m going to approach writing online going forward.
I call it Toward a more relational J.J.
Maybe you can gain some insight in your own journey there. It also involves me setting up two new Substack newsletters to help ‘niche’ myself…But they both suffer from the same problem.
I set them up this week, but I have 0 people to send a newsletter to! I’d be eternally grateful if any Feediumites wanted to be the first subscribers to my new projects. It’s also free to boot!
If you like my writing and history, please join A Pryor History.
If you like my writing on the crazy sh*t going on in modern society, please join A Pryori.
*Update: I have since reverted back to one newsletter to hold them all, currently called A Pryor Thought. But I change the name more often than underwear so I’m not sure how long that will last.
Now that the self-promo is over (my apologies), here are some of the guest writer top hits from the last month-ish.
- This Feels Very MLM (I like this one.)
- I Started on Medium to Make Money (Who didn’t?)
- Medium’s New Algorithm is Amazing (I think I LOL’d at the image when I first saw it. An evil laugh, ‘cuz my brain is a dick sometimes.)
- My Medium Strategy has changed (and why yours should too) (Hmm, guess I wasn’t the only one.)
- I have 100% curation rate and I’m still making coffee money (This statement is probably true for millionaires too, if they go to Starbucks)
- Did I just invent something new on Medium? (“If I haven’t seen it, it’s new to me!”)
- Delete all your drafts (No. I have over 1,200, the platform literally wont let me scroll to the first 800 or so.)
- The real reason why you’ve gained more followers on Medium lately (Bold statement, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.)
- The winning essay of the Medium Writers Challenge should’ve been disqualified (Only because none of mine won, I assume.)
- Medium is falling…Fast (Speed is relative. Especially if you’re on it.)
That’s it! Thanks Feediumites for reading, clapping, commenting, and being part of the community! I’ll be trying to do these writer updates a bit more often going forward, so if you hate seeing my work already, it’s about to get 2–4 x worse! Yay!
Also, friendly reminder of the many e-hugs I’ll send your way if you sign up for either of my new Substack newsletters above.
(Just imagine what I’d do if you signed up for all 3…)
