Some highlights from the Griz Renter Blog (clockwise from left): Neighborhood Ambassadors, dogs in a rental, and Klaus Sitte presenting.

The Griz Renter Blog has been up and running for nearly three months, and we have a variety of articles to help you check every box as you take on Missoula’s housing market.

✅ Know Your Rights

Before you start apartment-hunting, it is critical to understand your rights as a renter. For UM students that includes knowing whether you are eligible to live off-campus, but it also means knowing about discrimination and your right to fair housing.

Fair housing is a huge topic, and it’s so important that we made it the first feature page. You’ll find articles about discrimination and assistance animals, even a video!

✅ Find Housing

Okay, you know enough that no landlord is going to push you around. It’s time to get out there and find that rental. Check out our post on when and where to find housing.

Finding housing that allows pets can be an extra challenge, so if you are in that situation, you’ll want to read that article, too.

✅ Solve Problems

Once you have your place, all your problems are solved, right? Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. We have posts about a number of common issues, from landlords entering rentals to mandatory carpet cleaning.

If you want to really master renters’ rights, or maybe become a landlord, check out Klaus Sitte’s video on landlord-tenant laws.

✅ Find Help

Sometimes, a self-help blog post is not enough to solve a problem. We have an article about how to make an appointment with the ASUM Renter Center.

We also have some great posts about how to get food, including an article about the UM Food Pantry and one about applying for SNAP.

✅ Be a Good Neighbor

Are you moving? Don’t miss our post about getting rid of couches and other furniture.

And if you are ready to take neighborliness to the next level, become a Neighborhood Ambassador.

What’s Next?

We’re always looking for housing issues that are important to you. What are we missing? Let us know with a response! 👇🏼
