SORA Integrated Plan

The SORA Integrated Plan https://sora.org/plan

Many worlds, one economy.

The last time we caught up was on the fourth of July, between barbecues and fireworks, celebrating overthrowing monarchy with a plutocratic system. June’s updates set the tone for the Summer of SORA; a month later, we’re back with the latest news from the ecosystem. Some community members mentioned that monthly updates would be interesting, so we thought it would be worth a try. Welcome to the first Monthly SORA update.

We’re not sure if this is a format that should be used moving forward, and we would love to know your thoughts. Do you like monthly updates? Would you prefer to continue having bi-weekly updates? Let us know on Twitter and Telegram. The spectrum of decentralization includes such seemingly minor things as the frequency that you’re updated on the progress of the SORA Integrated Plan.

Without further ado, let’s jump right in. The first order is bridges; the SORA <> Kusama parachain bridge is functional already on the testnet. Currently, the focus is on giving the bridge a UI while it is also being audited and bugs found are fixed. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, bridges are notorious targets for online and IRL attacks. Audits are a key part of the development process, as they help identify any issues before the infrastructure is released in the wild. Additionally, the HASHI bridge is considered Systemically Important Infrastructure, so in its current state and after receiving upgrades, transactions on HASHI are protected from attacks and vulnerabilities. As if that were not enough, more EVM network compatibility has been added to the HASHI bridge. Take a look at the Polkaswap July updates for more details.

The implementation of the order book is making great progress, and the functionality for divisible assets is soon ready for public testing. Support for indivisible assets is currently being worked on. It’s worth noting that SORA-native NFTs can be divisible, which is exciting news for non-fungible enthusiasts who have been following their development on SORA. The current main focus is releasing the SORA Synthetics (XST) platform. Thank you for your ongoing patience.

The implementation of the SORA Synthetics (XST) platform is right around the corner, with only the production integration remaining. Algorithmic synthetic assets are an interesting subject in the crypto space, but there is much confusion surrounding what they are and what they are not. To help dispel some doubts, Polkaswap published a concise and interesting article explaining how they work, which can be found here. As promised, an article explaining how the platform works on SORA will be released when the platform goes live. The revamped SORA wiki will also be available with the SORA Synthetics (XST) release!

The new wiki incorporates all the available information in the current iteration, improves upon it, and updates it. It provides developers and builders with technical information on how to build or port their apps to SORA. We actively invite teams to build on the network and take advantage of its productivity-focused tokenomics, lightning-fast block times, and overall network stability.

Why settle for a network that becomes slower and more expensive as more people use it? It’s time to put the notion of clunky 8-bit user experiences and costly and painful chain interactions to rest. The SORA community and contributors work hard to make blockchain technology easy, intuitive, and accessible to all. After all, this is software for humanity first.

Back to the updates, a lot of great work is going on in Polkaswap; the Address book feature was successfully completed and released on the testnet, now work is ongoing to implement and integrate Subsquid, and as aforementioned, the bridges connecting other ecosystems to SORA, are getting the style and freedom treatment. Check out the Polkaswap updates for more details!

As the Good Doctor mentioned in his latest updates, our amazing partners are still working on the SORA Card release. We have crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s; now it is a matter of waiting. Understandably, this situation is frustrating, and you’re not alone in your angst. However, this is the way the legacy system works. Good things come to those who wait, so please hang in there a bit longer. Your ongoing patience and understanding are much appreciated.

For the clueless frens who check in once a year to ask what’s going on or check the pulse of the network, there was a successful testnet for the Substrate XCM bridge.

And there were TWO network upgrades in the span of the month.

We will make a parenthesis here to thank the SORA network Validators for their support during the minor outage while upgrading the network. SORA News covered the post-mortem in the article they shared with their readers. Take a look at the article here.

In other news, this month was also really productive regarding events; the SORA team gave an insightful ecosystem showcase at Polkadot Prague.

⚙️ SORA Blockchain Update

  • Released version 1.11.0 — Hermes Upgrade
  • Worked on release 1.11.1 — Fixes & Maintenance after an issue during the migration of a pallet
  • Analysing the business and technical requirements, as well as preparing the backlog for the implementation of Kensetsu (RFP)
  • Preparing a technical guide to open HRMP channels with other Kusama parachains

Substrate and EVM bridges

  • Onboarding an external team to conduct an audit of the bridge;
  • Working on tracking the status of transactions between the SORA network and the Kusama ecosystem parachains;
  • Supporting the web team (Polkaswap) to develop the bridge UI;
  • Maintenance of the Kusama parachain.

XST Platform (Github Milestone)

  • Received the fixes from our partners for the Oracle Data Feeds on the mechanism for price updates
  • Tested the data feed updates for the synthetic asset prices
  • Agreed with our partners to start the integration of Band Protocol on the production network. The integration from our partners could start in two weeks and should take less than two weeks.
  • Testing the dynamic fee for synthetic assets as part of the protection against front-running
  • Adding a fallback mechanism on SORA to manage errors if the data feed for a synthetic asset would stop:
  • The fallback should keep the price of the synthetic asset to the last price update;
  • If the synthetic asset does not receive any price update for one hour, the liquidity source for that specific synthetic asset will be stopped automatically.
  • Once the Oracle data feed update for the synthetic asset resumes, the synthetic asset would need to be enabled again through Governance.

Order Books (Github Milestone)

  • Wrapping up the development of the Order Book for divisible assets;
  • Supporting the web team (Polkaswap) to develop the order book UI;
  • Supporting the Quality Assurance team to prepare the test cases for the features;
  • Working on the management of indivisible assets for the Order Book.

📱 SORA Wallet Updates

🚀 Android + 🍏 iOS

  • Updating the implementation and integration of SORA Card after changes in the SDK from external partners
  • Testing the release 3.1.0 — SORA Card: Phase 1 in collaboration with external partners.
  • Working on the release 3.2.0 — UX Improvements.
  • Revised the implementation of the GoogleAuth feature to ensure interoperability with Polkaswap
  • Testing the release 3.2.0 — UX Improvements
  • Starting the implementation of the release 3.3.0 — Explore Ecosystem
  • The next two releases on SORA mobile (SORA Card: Phase 1 and UX Improvements) should come close together. We decided to keep the releases of SORA mobile and SORA Card separated.
  • Depending on the readiness of our partners, the release of UX Improvements might come earlier than the release of SORA Card: Phase 1.
