The Women Who Are Too Much
June 14th
“The older I get, the more I see how women are described as having gone mad, when what they’ve actually become is knowledgeable and powerful, and really fucking furious” — Sophie Heawood
What is it about strength in a woman
That demands it be broken?
What is it about the strength of a woman
That causes you to despise her?
That makes you want to disfigure her
Until she can no longer recognize herself
The same magic that attracts you, repels you.
Strange.
Fascinating.
This person that moves to the beat of her own pulse.
You love her, you want to own her.
Suffocate her.
You resent her because you can’t break her.
You want her to need you,
As desperately as you need her.
To want you, To reassure you.
You want to measure your strength,
By her weakness for you.
Why are you so threatened, by her wholeness?
You half person.
You chip away at her, little by little,
Tiny grazes, unnoticeable
But they pinch all the same.
Make her feel ugly, unwanted, unloved
Tell her she isn’t good enough.
Woman enough.
Make her feel selfish.
Drain her of her energy.
You think you should be her moon,
Her sun,
The only star in her sky.
Selfish woman.
Eh.
Women like her, they come to their senses.
Women like her, they walk away.
Women like her, do not compromise self.
She will be strong enough to gather all her parts,
And piece them back together for someone more deserving,
But, don’t worry.
They will still blame her anyway.
They will believe anything you say about her anyway.
She will take it, along with her freedom.
“Who does she think she is?”
Too educated, too successful
Too aloof, too independent
Too talented, too famous
Too fiery, too outspoken
Too free spirited, Too different
Too ambitious, too rich
Too MUCH.
Nobody granted her permission to be too much.
How dare she,
be more than what a woman should be?
You should have stayed away from her.
You should have known she would tear your soul apart.
You should have known that some women are like art,
To valuable to be owned,
Too complicated to understand.
She isn’t too much.
She’s just too much for you.
