If you’re new to the PT, this monthly post is about updates on projects using Cosmos, not about Cosmos or Tendermint itself. Read on to see what projects and dapps are active, and what milestones they’re hitting.

Big News & Updates:

Althea — The distributed ISP project continues to bring neighborhoods to their network. This is the biggest immediate challenge for Althea, so it’s good to see growth, and they’re also one of the very few crypto projects with actual customers and users (they should talk about this more). Governance has also approved a hard fork to update the network to the Cosmos Gaia v2.0.0 update.

Everett — introduced themselves to the community. The Everett team noticed some problematic staking incentive structures in PoS networks in comparison with dapp use and DeFi opportunities. Simplified, why would you stake for 8% when you can lend for 10%? There are many more complicated token and staking structures across PoS projects, so this will end up being a real problem. Everett built a protocol that creates an unbonded “shadow token” for tokens bonded in staking, allowing for liquidity even when waiting for unbonding lockups. There’s a lot of potential here, but also some danger in that there are more attack vectors in potential double-spend situations. Nevertheless, the Everett team is onto something worth watching.

IOV — is in mainnet launch mode. They’ve frozen their code in prep and have selected mainnet validators. IOV essentially provides simplified naming for their blockchain address on IOV. An interesting component of mass adoption UX that needs to be in the wild so we can see how users react to it. IOV is also soon releasing Weave, their SDK.

IRISnet — One of the flagship projects on Cosmos has a number of releases this month including a live mainnet. Congrats to the IRISnet team for shipping! Cypher Core is a validator for IRISnet, so we are especially excited to post that IRISnet mainnet is live! You can check it out in action here (peep Cypher Core in the top 10 validators list. The IRISnet Rainbow Wallet also upgraded to 2.4 and 2.5. The former with private key importing and exporting, and the latter with governance (voting) added in.

Keystation — released a key manager for dapps. This is a useful tool for devs as they come and build on Cosmos.

Regen — Regen is partnering with The Nature Conservancy as part of their Techstars Accelerator. This is a massive non-blockchain partnership giving credibility to the space in untapped ways. They are also partnering with the Rainforest Foundation putting their mission to work. The CEO has started video updates here. Also Regen completed the second testnet upgrade ‘Amazonas’ in 2.5 minutes.

Sentinel — The distributed VPN is updating with a number of important partnerships and integrations including with Zephyr Wallet. That is, Sentinel is a value-add (read marketing speak: optional feature) for Zephyr, providing VPN for wallet users. Also, Spider VPN (who makes fully open-sourced privacy-protecting wireless routers) is also enabling Sentinel as firmware allowing Spiderware’s router customers to connect to the Sentinel VPN. Both of these are business updates that stick to the core Sentinel mission. Good to see. Sentinel also has an app demo vid up.

THORChain — This project is always shipping stuff. They made a public kanban for progress transparency and they drop stuff to the closed column all the time. THORChain joins the Binance Chain Alliance. BEPSwap (instant token swaps on Binance chain) has a testnet shipped. Another token announced as a token swap partner. And a whole load of closed issues in their weekly dev updates.

Less big (but still cool) news:

Agoric, a smart contract platform, launched a testnet.

Bitsong has a testnet.

e-money has a tesnet.

Forbole receives funding from Interchain Foundation.

Lunie , the most well-known Cosmos wallet with Ledger Nano integration, has released some wallet updates and created a desktop browser extension that includes staking.

Microtick is a new, free price oracle for Cosmos dapps.

Paradigm — made their repo public, updated smart contracts, updated and stabilized testnet + front end, and moved their community and team chat to Discord.

Tichex — This project is new to me, it’s a stablecoin pegged to Euro on Cosmos. They postponed their testnet launch.

TrustWallet integrated Cosmos staking.

Summary

These project updates were researched from git repos and project blogs. If you have a project that’s active but not listed here, please reach out to the Cypher Core team to make sure your update is included in future posts. Cypher Core is dedicated to the Cosmos ecosystem and community and is here to help as a validator (delegate ATOM’s with Cypher Core), as well as to help projects solve business needs like getting your project the sunshine it needs to thrive.

Until next time Cosmonauts, keep shipping!
