Merry, Merry
Self-ish December Updates
Hello, hail and welcome to December! Whether it’s snowing where you are or burning hot(where I am), I hope you do manage to sneak in a bit of the Christmas spirit. It may not seem like there’ much to celebrate but we are alive and hopeful and happy to celebrate our little wins.
Things we’ve been up to Meet-Ups. Mags. Plenty
In our last newsletter, we announced that we are celebrating one year of the new Self-ish. So we created a beautiful visual compilation of all our favourites so far in a Magazine and we are making Ecopies available for free! Isn’t that great? Everything to love in one place. More on that later.
We also had an intimate Meet n’ Chill in a cute bistro in Yaounde where some of our Cameroonian writers got to exchange with readers on stories, real-life and everything in between. It was much fun.
Enough of gossip though. Straight into our usuals:
Trending
- Ngang God’swill N. stays consistent in our top spot with a richly philosophical piece: Time and Religion — A vicious duo which looks at the roles religion plays in our lives.
- Ameaka is back after a little bout of silence with what another writer fondly describes as ‘Another episode of keeping up with Ameaka’. In Flearning — The Art of Learning from Failure, she talks in the usual rambling and humorous style about the underrated force of ‘just trying’.
- Glory Mafor is one of our latest additions who decidedly feels like an old, familiar pair of shoes; she fits right in. She gives us a good dose of ‘personal’ in her piece: Three Lessons I Learnt from Staying Away Too Long. Or what to do when you come back from a breakdown. Enticing enough, isn’t it?
Editor’s Pick
- Creole — The Mask by Bate-Epey Ebai Tarkang is a worthy read about using language to forge new identities and camouflage pain.
November Prompt Entries
‘Something worth celebrating’ was our simple theme for November.
- Dear Glory by Glory Mafor is a celebration of personal victories and survival amid fear.
- Tribute to the Good by Ngang God’swill N. appreciates the miracle of ‘today’.
