This is around the time folks usually apply to PhD programs, academic jobs and other new positions. Since I have gone through the process before and am currently going through the process again, I thought I would share some pointers I found useful…

For a couple of years I have been arguing that if Fast Radio Bursts are associated with stellar-mass black holes…
Life creates everything we recognize in the world around us from nothing but simple chemical ingredients and ambient energy from the sun or the churning earth beneath us.
HOW THE MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES ARE CONSTITUTED
Modern sciences deal with idealized things: with frictionless surfaces, rays of light, ideal gases, incompressible fluids, perfectly flexible strings, ideally efficient engines, ideal…
Never Alone
I am never alone. I try to find a place to be, where I can be on my own, where I can self-direct, where I can do what it is I both wish and need to do, but it is impossible. I cannot get to that place. No one can. The only way to really be alone is to kill everything around you, including yourself, and that…
Almost all living organisms on earth get their energy, ultimately, from the sun. Energy is…
Recently, Nature published a paper on how an old drug helps to cure cancer (if you don’t have subscription to Nature, read this news article to get some sense about it). I am fascinated by this idea that can potentially help millions of cancer patients. The drug is well…

The question that led to this article was simple: how many squirrels die of old age in the wild?
The answer, as it turns out, is none of them. Or most of them. Whatever. It all depends on how you define “dying of old age.” And that led to a much more interesting question:
Or what Dark Energy is (hint: it is highly probable that it is not “stuff”), or why the Standard Model of…

As trevas da era medieval voltaram, e dessa vez a culpa é nossa!
You might be thinking that in between the talk of Vaidic Theory of the Universe, why did I start the discussion about religions? In this topic, I want to make the world aware that no religion, ideology or creed in this world is without any philosophical basis. And there is…

You’ve heard the advocates. You’ve heard the skeptics. You’ve heard the testimonies from people who swear by it and the horror stories from its victims.
This polarizing topic? The flu shot.

I’m a huge proponent of creativity and STEM, so the blending of both is a win in my book.
Well written and Mindful. Would only add that the creation, even given entropy, creates complexity — albeit temporary in the case of our lifespan. Nevertheless, the nature on Earth and swirling through space certainly does invoke awe, beauty and truth. And, we belong in that.
Time? Isn’t it merely a measurement of how energetic systems relate to one another?
A stopwatch, for example, used to determine the time it takes for a racehorse to run around a track where each “second” is determined by the distance traveled by each tick. The distance covered by the stopwatch compared to the distance…

It’s incredibly unfortunate that STEM has such a gender and minority gap, but I am hopeful that we can change that! Thanks for sharing.
