Definitely in the early stages. It would be great if we could make fMRI less obtrusive so that we could use the technique in a more natural environment, but a little bit of progress at a time. They are getting closer to quality portable MEG devices though, I think.
Machine learning can give us insight into problems that we do not currently know how to solve. That is indeed the true power of ML.
