These prestidigitators,
spin words into silken prose,
with a flick of a phrase,
they draw in the invisible
in bold strokes of light.

Their creations march up to you —
casually regal — more than the
naive princess with the pea —
proffering preserved truth
wrapped in beauty

Some shine a beacon of reason
to help you escape out of
the chains of spongy comfortable thinking,
changing your perspective
with lightning parries of ideas

Some restore confidence,
when you feel squashed
and would rather give up,
their sage advice helps you ascend
out of the clouds of ambiguity
into the essence of you

Some show up
like the star in the east
at just the right time,
whisper belief into you,
and gift you the courage
to risk following
your heart and mind

Some make you laugh
even on the vaguest of days
like children do,
leaving behind wrinkles of happiness
and boundless peace,
magically making spring bloom
in the midst of winter

Some whisper stories of sugar and spice,
a ferris-wheel of serendipitous miracles,
balancing the hurt of life with a
celebration of adoration and fairy wishes

Some paint pieces of
glittering snow sleeping heavenly in
trees safe in the warmth of their roots,
while promises roost in their branches
cradled in the silence of angelic spirits

Some soothe your rage and pain,
move mountains of hurt in moments
by drawing you into their clique
and letting you know,
that you are not waiting alone

Some call to your
fevered dreams of the dark,
some to your caroling songs of light,
with super-powered shots
of inspiration leaving
you coated in the need to read

It is an honour to read you all

This poem uses all of Chalkboard’s previous one-line poetry prompts. Thanks to Kathy for being the life and soul of the one-liners and for thinking up this great idea!

Endlessly fascinated by how 26 simple symbols can say so much…
