If the sun in all of its brilliance is the witness of the almighty God in creation and a darkened moon is the epitome of humanity in its vilest state, what event in nature shows how humanity’s depravity is obstructing God’s glory? Is there any witness in nature that sin prevents the light of God from reaching us? Is there an event in the cosmos that depicts that spiritual reality? Yes and it is called an eclipse?

There was one time in history where one man bore the sins of the entire world and the father turned away from Him. He bore the sins of all humanity before and after Him so much that the father forsook Him on the cross. This act brought physical darkness on the earth. The sins of man finally eclipsed the light of God. And God judged it without holding back, so much so that afterwards, His wrath subsided.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Mark 15:33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

Again if the sun represents God in natures rendering of the Gospel and the darkened moon is humanity at its uttermost corruption, what event in history reflects that God’s light is totally eclipsed? The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The devil thought by killing Jesus on the cross, He had put an end to God’s goal of putting an everlasting light in man.

1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But that’s not where it ends! If sin and death needed to be buried, it takes One who is unable to die to carry it into the grave and lock it up while He steps out. Does that sound like Jesus bearing our sins and those of the whole world into hades, locking it up and bringing the key with him as He rose from the dead!

One of the most beautiful phenomenons in nature in my opinion is the Solar Eclipse. We see all within 3 minutes how the moon covers up the sun totally and gradually moves away exposing first the shape of a crescent and finally the whole of the sun just as it was. As it turns out, I am not just the one who finds this very interesting, millions of people all over the world come out with gadgets of varying qualities and costs to behold this beautiful wonder in nature. People spend thousands of dollars on equipments just to catch a glimpse of 3 minutes of such a beauty in nature. What if I told you this is the story the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus encoded in nature?

First when the moon covers the sun, I am reminded how the son of God was brutally murdered and buried in a grave. And literally a stone was rolled over the grave. And just in a moment (read on the third day) the same stone was gracefully rolled away and the light of the world returns in full glory and radiance. I could not think of a better way to write this eternal story in natural elements.

Everything in nature is an encoded message of the glory of God. Nothing speaks of God’s glory to us than the redemption story and the resurrection. And here is nature role-playing yet again. Another eternal truth witness to by the elements of nature. How beautiful and wonderful God is!
