Day #13 — We All Need Tough Love, Myself Included

This is a LIVE case study where I am documenting my journey to becoming a highly paid marketing consultant by blogging everyday for 50 consecutive days. It’s called “50 Days to Freedom: My Journey to 5 Figures in 50 Days“. At the end of the post, you will find links to all the previous days

Earlier today, in a Facebook group I am a part of, a guy posted 4 ads he is running for a client.

These ads are not performing well, and he asked for advice from the group of 13,000+ marketers.

In these groups, I prefer honest & direct advice, as that is what is going to truly help them. I can come off as an asshole to some, and that’s fine with me.

This meme sums it up quite well…

My style is not for everyone.

And I get it…

A couple years ago I’d rather have people blow smoke up my ass and tell me I was doing awesome. I had very thin skin.

Not to say my skin is alligator tough now, but it is thicker than a Kleenex.

People blowing smoke up my ass did not serve me, and if anything, held me back as it gave me false hope.

So, that is why I take the tough love approach as I know it’s what I NEEDED when I got started. Still need it, at times.

Here is one of the comments I posted…

I give them what they need — the raw, unfiltered truth.

My initial comment generated 33 follow up comments. I didn’t hold back, but let him know that it was nothing personal.

If you’re out there taking action, trying things, making mistakes, failing, learning, etc — like this young man — I have an enormous amount of respect for you.

You’re doing something.

Sadly, 97.3% sit on the sidelines and don’t do anything.

Later on, he sent me this message…

He didn’t take any of it personal, and was grateful for the advice I shared.

He had a pain in the ass client, which happens to everyone. I told him he needs to value himself more ( we all do as consultants) and find a business owner who appreciates his work/services/skills/knowledge.

As a consultant, this is EXTREMELY important. Bad clients can suck the life out of you.

I also find helping these newer marketers incredibly fulfilling. It is the reason I spend so much time in these Facebook groups, some might argue — too much time :D

Day #13 Breakdown

Today is Saturday, of Memorial Day weekend. I am being respectful of people and not sending emails out this weekend.

I did chat (FB messenger) with a guy from Scotland. A few weeks ago, he posted in a FB group that his Facebook ads were not performing. I gave him some advice (as always, honest & direct), and he reached out via PM inquiring about my services.

We chatted again today, and am confident we can knock it out of the park for him.
