Some Fathers.

Some fathers will be your first love.

Some fathers will be your first heart break.

Some fathers will be your worst nightmare.

Some fathers?

They will navigate between all three.

Some fathers will teach you how you should be loved,

Leave you with impossible shoes to fill.

Some fathers will build up your confidence,

And teach you to take on the world.

But some fathers?

Some fathers will be a figment of your imagination,

You teach yourself to exist without him.

Some fathers will be full of lies and failed promises.

Some fathers will break your heart,

Long before any other man has the chance.

Some fathers will teach you to have self respect,

But will forget to respect your mother.

Some fathers will break your mothers bones.

Some will unravel her, seam by seam.

Some fathers will frown at their daughter’s heart ache,

But teach their sons to be heart breakers.

Some fathers will raise sons with uninteresting interpretations,

Of what a man is.

Some fathers will confuse you.

The same father that makes you pray for a man,

Who will be a father just like him,

Will make you pray for a husband

Who will be nothing like him.

Some fathers will teach you about the darkness that comes at night,

And some fathers will be the darkness that comes to you at night.

Some fathers raise their daughters,

With traits they do not want to see in their wives,

As though he forgets before she became his wife,

She was someone else’s daughter.

Some fathers will teach their sons,

To express displeasure with their fists,

And their daughters, to interpret that as love.

Some fathers have four faces;

One for their wives,

One for their daughters,

One for their sons,

And one for the public.

Some fathers will bring you immeasurable joy,

And some fathers will bring you indescribable pain.

Some fathers are broken.

Some fathers are selfish.

The man you should look up to,

In many ways, still just a boy.

Hm.

If you are lucky, your father is your first love.

For many, he is their first nightmare.
