We’re so innately competitive aren’t we? The thought of “winning” excites us. It brings a certain bragging right to the table because it was earned. Is there a time that competition becomes toxic though?

I think under specific circumstances, yes.

  • When it makes us think we’re better than another
  • When it makes us constantly compare ourselves to another
  • When it decides who is more important
  • When it becomes corrupt

Like a lot of things, I think competition can bring the best and the worst out of you. It can entertain, motivate, and dominate.

Giving our attention to competition is much easier than committing to something. Competition is dramatic and it engulfs us. It stirs us up and keeps us on the edge of our seat. It drives us to train better, work harder, and be stronger.

Winning only solidifies the thought in our minds that we are the best at what we invest our time into.

Do we really wonder why we have an ego problem?
