100 Naked Words — Day 26
On Fishing
Reflections, Ripples and Ramblings of a Restless Mind
It is easy to preach to others. It’s easy to say ‘I did this, so you should do the same thing too’. It is easy to present yourself as having all the answers.
It is easy, but it is wrong. And it is just like giving a man a fish. He is going to go hungry again soon.
Because people don’t need to be given a solution, rather they need the tools to tackle the problem in the first place.
We all need guidance in life. It is both arrogant and delusional to think otherwise.
Because, despite every listicle, every self help post, every proclamation that someone is ‘winning at life and so can you’, life is not governed by a set of instructions. Life cannot be reduced to an if then than that statement. Life is not as easy as rinse and repeat.
Every success is foreshadowed by myriad false starts, a plethora of failures, it’s preceded by self doubt, despondency and tears. Because hundreds go wrong before the one that goes right.
Life is organic and chaotic, it’s mysterious and hypnotic, it’s creative and entropic.
Find someone who will guide you, coach you, teach you how to roll with the punches not just how to block or dodge them.
Find that special someone who isn’t interested in showing their superiority by giving you the fish.
But who shows their incredible value by teaching you how to catch it in the first place…
