“We didn’t mean to be deceitful,” pleaded Wendy, “we were desperate to….”

“You do not need to explain.” The hooded creature had a female voice. “It was we who chose you.”

“You are the real Black Redeemer?” asked Quench, his voice trembling

“I am, as are others, we are all the Black Redeemer, we are many, and we are one.”

Quench noticed the creature’s hands were peeking out from under her robe, just above her feet. He thought of the figure following them by the underground river; long arms would be just what was needed to clamber so deftly over the rocks.

“You chose us?” asked Quench. “For what?”

“The Black Redeemer is never revealed. We speak through others’ tongues. You were the perfect choice, an unknown Kin, inexperienced in the Aura; it’s why we brought you to this place.

“You brought us…?”

“Your presence here is a not random event.”

“Why are you revealing yourselves now?”

“Wendy, you have begun to resist, you are learning to control your Aura. You must let us gain entry. The Black Redeemer must be heard.”
