An eventful recruiting weekend got even more eventful as Clayton (NC) Pro-Style Quarterback Darius Ocean became the third commitment of the weekend.

Ocean is a 5'10 195 pound quarterback from North Carolina. Playing for Cleveland High School he led the Rams to a 12–3 record during his Junior season passing for 3,757 yards passing with 36 touchdowns (9 interceptions)with a 66% completion percentage. He also ran for 158 yards rushing and added 8 more touchdowns. He led the Rams to the North Carolina 3-A state championship game before losing 37–33 in the finals.

Here is Ocean’s junior year highlight tape:

Though he is a little short in stature, you can’t argue with his production. Ocean isn’t rated yet by 247 Sports or Rivals and WKU is the first FBS school to offer him. He has received interest from Charlotte, Georgia State & NC State. He was offered by WKU on June 16th and this official visit weekend must have put him over the top.

Ocean has transferred to Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina for his senior year. This will help him play against high-level competition in the Charlotte area and may attract more interest as the year progresses.

Ocean is the first high school quarterback to commit to Tyson Helton since he took over as head coach. With Ocean you’ve got someone that can air it out but isn’t a statue in the pocket. With Steven Duncan entering his junior season, Ocean would probably redshirt his first year on the Hill should he sign with the Tops.

He is the third commitment for WKU this weekend and eleventh overall. Helton seems to be targeting under the radar players (in the South) with good measurables or good numbers. At the G5 level, talent evaluation and development are often more important than star ratings.

Here is where the 2020 class sits after Ocean’s commitment
