“Are you guys packed up and ready to go, Hannah?”
“Hey Jess, yeah. I’m really going to miss you, though.”
“Look after the big guy for me, please.”
“Of course.”
I felt more than a little out of sorts. My love life had become a rolling bloody melee of romantic, sexual and gender contexts. Was I lesbian, bisexual or straight, and which sexual being applied to any or more categories of my life?
I questioned whether I could be faithful in a relationship, or, if I picked the right partner, would that be necessary? My life was a mess of contradictions, dilemma and self inflicted problems.
“I think we should talk, Jess.”
“Oh okay, what about then?”
“Don’t pretend it's some great mystery. If there’s one thing I admire about you above all else, it’s your honesty.”
Jess sat down on the sofa, lit a joint and stared at me, puffing so hard that I knew serious tension was mixed into the weed scented smoke that drifted my way.
