146. Don’t be afraid to explore your lake of consciousness
It can be scary, but it’s beautiful at the same time.
There are a lot of things that we’re unaware of that go on under the surface of our consciousness. Things that are part of our identity that we don’t acknowledge. Things that trigger old memories for things we ache for.
Self awareness might be a problem in social circles, but it’s very beneficial for the self. If you don’t know why you get viscerally angry at certain things, casting an oar out over the lake might reveal a scene from your childhood of perceived injustice.
If you don’t know why you always think of a past lover when you stop by a certain place, it might pay to retrace footsteps whenever you pass by that location and at the same time, explore your memories of them.
The more you explore, the more your lake will expand. The more it expands, the clearer it will be. The clearer it is, the better you can see yourself in it.
