“Major” Snowstorm, a Nor’easter, Imminent in New England

Heavy snow, maybe up to around 24 inches, and sleet in New Hampshire and western Maine.

Significant rainfall and more river flooding plus a high wind warning, with gusts to 60 mph expected, in southern New England and parts of Vermont.

An avalanche watch in New Hampshire’s Presidential Range, and a coastal flood warning and coastal flood watch, depending on the location in New England.

These are some of the weather warnings and watches linked to a “major, long duration spring snowstorm” — a nor’easter — that kicks in today and lingers into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Guide to Snowfall Forecast Maps for New England, With Other Snow Information and Photos

Snowfall forecast (as of 11 a.m. EDT today) through 8 a.m. on Sat. April 6, 2024. Maps covering each of the New England states and New York state are updated regularly. National Weather Service forecast offices elsewhere also update their maps (see the Winter Weather logo on NWS websites for maps and winter information). The big spring snowstorm follows a very wet first three months of this year in much of the Northeast, and this cold season has featured below-normal snowfall in nearly all of the region.
