151. Slow and steady wins the race

In a world of get rich quick and breaking things fast, slowness could be the ultimate strategy for success.

It’s mind boggling to think how fast things change. When you’re standing still, forces out of your control are sculpting the world you live in such that it will be completely different in a few years’ time.

People are becoming more and more uncertain about the world around them. This leads to a knee jerk response of trying to do more things but doing nothing particularly well.

“At least I won’t be left behind.” You think.

Doing someone with an “at least” justification has never got anyone far in life.

As everyone rushes ahead to try and keep up, they leave some people in the dust. I was once one of those runners. I ran because everyone else was. I’m not good at running, so I stopped.

Now I walk — deliberately and purposefully. People who run with excitement tend to burn out quickly. I’d rather keep up a pace I can manage indefinitely so that I know that I’ll reach my destination with a high degree of certainty.

Don’t stand still. Don’t run. Walk forward with purpose — and don’t stop.
