Solitude is elusive. Those moments when the world fades to background and only your thoughts are left.

In today’s world, there is always a distraction. A child’s demands, a call, a message, a mail, the endless feed of drivel perpetuated by social medi(ocre).

Because we’re never off, we’re almost never on.

The best ideas are born from tranquillity, forged in quietude and synthesised from silence.

Noise is like a wrecking ball to innovation, distraction like so much C4 wired to the walls.

The Spanish say ‘Dar a luz’ meaning to give birth; literally ‘to give to the light’.

I can’t find a better way of describing the moment when an idea erupts into the world, out of the darkness and the deafening vacuum of un-noise, screaming into the world — changing the life of all those it touches.

Ideas are potent, visceral, and if you are not careful, they will elude your grasp.

Would that we all gave our ideas to the light instead of giving ourselves to the noise — what a world we might live in…

Side note — I’ll be off in my beautiful Africa for a few days, I’ll be writing away (and hope to share some pictures if all goes well), but with what is likely to be limited access to the interwebs, don’t be surprised if all you see from me over the next few days is silence.

Thanks as always to Johnson Kee for making 100NW such a great place to mull over my thoughts!

About me: Citizen of the World. I love writing, photography, travelling, reading, learning and growing. Medium is another journey in my life, let’s see what sights we may see.
