Statistics form only part of your story. Who knows, if you played for England, you may have even won a World Cup. But that’s just conjecture, innit? And you’ve always proudly represented Wales whenever you had a chance. That’s what’s so wonderful about you – loyalty, and longevity.

Zidane famously remarked once that if you were French, he or Pires would have to sit on the bench.

The way you would run down the flanks inspired many chants, none more famous than ‘Giggs will tear you apart again’.
