Revelations

It’s amazing how one’s perception of a person changes when new facts are revealed about him/her. Suddenly, all those strange decisions, altercations and display of odd behaviour begin to have more meaning.

I’ve had quite a few such revelations in the past few months.

I wish I’d studied human psychology. My good friend Divya reads people so perfectly, it astonishes me (although that has NOTHING to do with the fact that she’s studied psychology – she’s just a very shrewd reader of people). I’ll rephrase – I wish I UNDERSTOOD human psychology better. If you’re able to gauge general behavioural patterns, you’ll probably know how a person will react to a particular situation. It almost becomes like a game of chess – you will be able to predict a person’s move beforehand and react accordingly.

There are very few people in the world who read me well. One of them’s my father.

And today is his birthday. Happy birthday dad! He’s been more like a friend to me than a father, and quite a lot of people have thought of him as my older brother. We share a bond that goes beyond the usual Indian middle class definition of father-son relationships. And it doesn’t matter how tumultuous life gets, he’s always the calmest person in the room. Thanks for everything, dad. Continue being the person you are.
