#365DaysOfWriting — Day 238
Happy New Year!
The first day of the new year is my 238th day of writing.
It’s incredible when I look back and think about where I was on January 1st, 2016 and where I am now. To say it’s been a roller-coaster would be to put it mildly.
I made a list of my favourite Bollywood and Hollywood movies of last year.
You can check it out here. One thing I need to rectify in 2017 — I need to watch more movies. Especially regional movies — I often miss out on gems from various parts of India. I also want to attend the MAMI festival, but as long as I have a job in advertising, I don’t think I’ll be able to. But I need to watch more films this year.
I also need to read a lot more this year.
The amount of unread books I have is quite staggering. I have read quite a bit this year though — I read Amitav Ghosh’s acclaimed Ibis Trilogy (Sea of Poppies, River of Smoke and Flood of Fire) and it was excellent. I read a lot of great comics — Marvel really knocked it out of the park with the excellent Hawkeye series by David Aja and Matt Fraction (I completed it only this year). And what do I say about Darth Vader? Absolutely brilliant writing by Kieron Gillen. Fight Club 2 was a bit of a disappointment, but I got my comic signed by Cameron Stewart, so it’s not a disappointment. DC have sort of redeemed themselves with some great Rebirth titles. I also liked Multiversity.
I’m currently reading Arnab Ray’s excellent Sultan of Delhi: Ascension. I should probably complete it by tonight. I’ve read 3 books by Arnab Ray, all very different from each other — a psychological horror/thriller, The Mine, followed by a Dickensian human introspection story in Yatrik, and now a pulp fictionesque version of The Godfather with Sultan of Delhi: Ascension. My favourite so far has been The Mine. Maybe Sultan of Delhi outdoes it, maybe it doesn’t — we’ll have to wait and see.
I’ve also begun reading Alan Moore’s sprawling epic, Jerusalem — although I don’t know when I’m going to finish that one.
That’s it for the first day of 2017 then. I’m going for a walk now. Have a great year, folks!
